When Hurricane Helene brought unprecedented devastation to Western North Carolina, it was clear that support from across the state would be essential to help communities recover. While the heart of Camber Foundation is deeply rooted in serving Eastern North Carolina, the shared connection and spirit of North Carolinians called for solidarity in this time of crisis.
To assist recovery efforts, four nonprofits received grants totaling $67,732 from Camber Foundation. These organizations were selected for their alignment with Camber’s grantmaking and their focus on addressing unmet needs in impacted areas that may have received less funding through other sources:
- Lansing Alliance, a newly formed organization sponsored by Ashe County Advantage Project, is providing urgent assistance to local small businesses and immediate town recovery efforts.
- WAMY Community Action, Inc. is providing a wide range of critical services in Watauga County, including housing and weatherization, food programs, and youth development to support storm recovery.
- Hospitality House of Northwest North Carolina is offering housing and essential services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
- Western Youth Network is creating a safe space for young people affected by Helene, offering after-school programs and trauma-informed care in Northwest North Carolina.
In times of crisis, we are reminded of the strength and resilience of our North Carolina communities. Working tirelessly on the ground, these organizations demonstrate the power of collective care and embody the enduring spirit of recovery. Together, we are stronger.
