Senior Advisor

David Kyger joined Camber Foundation as Senior Advisor in May 2026, following a distinguished career as a nonprofit and tax-exempt attorney, with a highly specialized practice focused on advising public charities and philanthropic institutions throughout North Carolina. In this role, he supports Camber’s president and chief executive officer in matters of philanthropic strategy, organizational excellence, and board governance.

Prior to his retirement from legal practice, David spent three decades advising regional and statewide grantmaking organizations, often beginning at their origins and helping leaders navigate their development and mission fulfillment. In addition to serving Camber Foundation in this capacity, David also acted as outside general counsel to The Golden LEAF Foundation for more than 25 years. As Camber’s Senior Advisor, David values the opportunity to continue supporting Eastern North Carolina’s thriving nonprofit sector through philanthropy.

A recognized leader in nonprofit law, David has earned widespread peer recognition for his commitment to North Carolina’s philanthropic sector, including selection to The Best Lawyers in America® for Nonprofit/Charities Law. His lifetime of impact has been honored with The Order of the Long Leaf Pine—North Carolina’s highest civilian honor—as well as the North Carolina Bar Association Business Law Section’s Distinguished Service Award for his dedicated contributions to the state’s nonprofit sector.

David holds degrees from Vanderbilt University and the University of Virginia, where he studied law and counselor education. He lives near Reidsville in Rockingham County with his wife. A proud father, stepfather, and new grandfather, he spends his time outside of work composing and performing music across a variety of genres.
